October's Random Thoughts

Oct 31, 2022

K.  I'm writing this on Halloween.

This is SURE to be one of the worst months to procrastinate on ... even worse than writing it on New Years Eve or that one time at our friends house when I had had a few drinks while writing it.  ;)

This month ... every single time I even THINK to get my fingers on the keyboard I have a dinosaur, a witch or an Ironman at my door.  The very first set of kids we had at 5pm asked to pet my lab Marley, so now she expects this every time the doorbell rings ... which is every 3 minutes.  She also has begun alerting me in advance, because when she sees them come down the driveway she bursts out barking and howling.

Super ... my nervous system was needing the dysregulation ... (can you hear the sarcasm there?)

The good news is that you're likely reading this in the morning ... Halloween is over and you're looking for some inspiration so YOU are much better off now than me, so lets go!

COFFEE TALK

I don't know if you've noticed but ... my social media has changed a bit.  If you have been coached by me, if you've been in my groups, listen to my podcasts or know me personally ... you might wonder what crack I'm smokin' ... cause it doesn't SEEM different.

But if you ONLY know me from my public socials, you will likely notice the shift on instagram.  I'm a bit more risky, a bit more "ballsy" and basically ... more outlandishly myself.

There's a REASON why I named my podcast this way though ... because I really DO say random crazy shit.

My coach Jana calls me a "pattern interruptor".  I say the funniest things at the most random times and it interrupts the daily pattern of the mundane.  It's the analogies and the metaphors that stick out in your mind ... the ones you'll never forget.

This week in THE POWER OF YOU, I'm chatting about ACCEPTANCE (last week was AWARENESS).  Acceptance is super hard ... but like I said in the course, if there is rotting fruit in your fridge you can't just close the fucking door and pretend it isn't in there.  You're GONNA have to accept that it's in there and find a way to deal with it.

So in an effort to show a bit more of my awesomeness that I've been hiding, I'm sharing some BTS (behind-the-scenes) moments on instagram and in my stories.   You will get a glimpse of what my courses are like and a little bit more about me.

It's a little sweary ... but since you're on my mailing list I guess you already know that.  ;)

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

This month I've been talking a bit about front doors in my free group.  Do's and don'ts ... how to make your door feel wider than it is, or larger than it is, because that is just plain ole good energy (and that's good feng shui).

There ARE more traditional things that you can do as well that I often don't share, like adding an i-ching coin or a bell to your door on red ribbon or string.  Adding foo dogs (sometimes spelled fu dogs) to either side of your door.

I don't often share them as I'm not traditional in that sense but I am trained in many of the traditional "cures".

So let's chat a little bit about a few of these suckers shall we?

Foo Dogs = protectors.  They are an ancient Chinese cure to ward off negative energies.  You can find them a lot of places (including Vegas).  They are meant to be in pairs (one male lion and one female lion).  The male holds a ball (representing the world) and a female holds a puppy under it's paw.  When standing looking at your front door from the outside, the female is to be placed on the left;  the male on the right.  These are actually placed incorrectly in the picture below ... the lifted paws should always be closest to the door.

This red ribbon/bell cure = attracting wealth to your home.
Typically you would see either 9" or 27" of red ribbon used in this cure.  The number 9 (or multiples of 9) is considered auspicious.

But here is what I want you MOST to know ...

If you LOVE having a red string with a bell and/or fu dogs then DO it.  If you need a bit of luck and you want to try it ... DO it.  But if every time you walk up to your door, roll your eyes and want to walk past ... FEEL FREE TO AVOID THIS CURE.

It's much more important that you LOVE your front door than it is to add things to your space that you can't stand.  When it feels good to you, its good feng shui.

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

This month I want to talk about my kids.  Now full disclosure ... some days I think we fucked them RIGHT up.  Also what I know to be true?
The internet has created an environment where we ONLY share the best (I mean truly ... no one wants to share the WORST) and then everyone reading on-line secretly feels inferior as a parent and starts finding therapists, tutors and brand new vehicles for their children.

Let's not judge ourselves here.  You're doing FINE, I promise.

Say it with me:

My kids are flawed JUST LIKE THE REST OF US.
They make mistakes BECAUSE KIDS ARE SUPPOSED TO.
We aren't perfect parents CAUSE NO ONE IS PERFECT.

and now I'm going to share something great ... cause we get to do that too.

I'm so damned inspired by my kids for the sole reason that they already know what lights their souls on fire.  How many of us can say THAT?!  Even at 50 most people don't know.

This is our gorgeous daughter.  She is going into medical aesthetics (which means she must have some type of medical degree + be an esthetician).  She has begun with the beauty side of things and then next year will begin nursing.  She is SO in her element and I always knew she would be just naturally gifted in this area.  Already they have asked her to model twice for the school ... but more than that, she's SUPER fun to take shopping in Sephora.  ;)  This year part of her course is permanent makeup (like eyebrow, eyeliner and lip blushing tattoos).  She is NOT scared at all!!!

Remember when I said tattoos on your face SHOULD be something we overthink???  Yep ... she's gonna be doing them.  lol  I trust her though and her own eyebrows are always fabulous.  I don't want someone with bad brows to tattoo MINE on, ya know?

Here is my son ... on the Commonwealth CFL stadium ... in one of his best University football games.  He (and this tackle) was featured on the Edmonton Elks IG stories and this past weekend the Elks defence coach congratulated him on an amazing game.  Uhmmmmm what now?  His world is just wild, I'm telling ya.

But these crazy opportunities and bliss in the process ... means it's what they are MEANT to do.

They have natural gifts and despite possible fear they have an underlying confidence that is unmatched.  We ALL have areas in our lives where we feel this, yet most of us hold back.  Sometimes we can't even SEE our gifts anymore because our own bullshit thoughts hold us back.

Be bold enough and brave enough, to find your talents ... and do more of THAT.

THAT is where the magic lies.

FUN STUFF from the INTERWEBS

OK ... I don't have cats but MAN this made me laugh this month!!!!

It took me a minute to catch this one ... haha.

and also ...

COOL SHIT

Alright ... tell me who has ever tried mochi?

These little Japanese rice-dough-wrapped ice cream balls are my new favourite obsession.  I swear I wake up thinking about these suckers.

The rice dough outside is slightly chewy (pretty sure this is the best part) and coated in confectioners sugar.  The inside is varying flavours of ice cream.  Mango happens to be the ones I most recently have purchased. I've also tried salted caramel and vanilla.

HANDS DOWN vanilla is the best.  My mouth is watering right now thinking about them, in fact.

Side note: I have read that these originated in Korea, some sites say China and others say Japan.  Honestly who knows ... but they are tasty nonetheless.

WHAT'S COMIN UP?

This month I started week one of The Power of You and I'm continuing the final three weeks in November!

THE POWER OF YOU

This program has been such a game changer for me (and for the ladies who have taken prior rounds in the past).  It literally helps you to THINK differently, WORK differently and BECOME the best version of yourself.  You will regain your own personal power, find your own personal zone of brilliance and live every day with a lighter, more playful energy.

If you think about it ... where will you be in ten years?  TEN YEARS FROM NOW ... when you look in the mirror ... what will you wish you had done?

I know what I wish I had done ten years ago and ONE of those things was "get over my own shit".

This is the program that will help you do that and I completely believe that it will change your whole damn life.

We start mid-October

I have three options for payment so that everyone can join
It's lifetime access so you pay once and you get access to any future rounds I run

OK I'm ready

I've also got new podcast episodes that have aired.  Have you heard them yet????  "WTF Did She Just Say?" airs new episodes every Monday (and then bonus ones whenever the fuck I feel like it).  Each episode is approximately 15 minutes in length ... because when I was still at work, I wanted a podcast that I could listen to on my drive to work (it was 15 minutes for me from door to door) and I also wanted to be able to listen to something on my coffee break (I never took them ... but i WOULD if I had a cool chick on a podcast to listen to).

Click here to find the episodes

Leigh Kubin and I also have a podcast!!!  This one is a little deeper in thought and Abraham-Hicks like.  We talk a LOT about mindset, motivation and life in general.  it's a half hour show that makes you think differently about the world, life in general and is just a happy injection to your day!

What's better??

Now we are on Apple podcasts too!

Listen on Spotify right now!

TASTY SHIT!

Balsamic Beets

We had very little time to make supper (or we were just lazy, I actually can't remember) and we whipped up this super quick side dish.  We steamed the beets, didn't even chop the pecans and threw it all together before we snapped a picture and drizzled the balsamic on it.

STILL TASTY

The picture below is the fastest least fancy ... in the tips and tweaks section I tell you what we do when we have more time.  It's nice just to have a variation on the vegetables sometimes, you know?

My husband Cam, loves to have beets in his smoothies.  Our son once got to train with the Oilers for a day and us parents got to meet with the Oilers chef.  He made us a smoothie with beets in it.
It was NOT good ... beets in a smoothie basically tastes like licking a mud puddle.  However Cam loved it and continues to juice beets and call them his Oilers smoothies.

While I steer clear of them, I LOVE beets as a side dish, even just with butter, but this recipe is one of my favourites.

Ingredients:

cooked beets (either boiled, steamed or roasted!  yum)
creamed goat cheese
pecans (whole or chopped)
balsamic glaze (to drizzle)

Directions:

Cut cooked (and peeled) beets into halves or quarters
add in bits of creamed goat cheese to taste
drop in pecans

Mix very gently, then drizzle with balsamic glaze.

Our Tips and Tweaks:

-  I personally love the caramelization and extra depth of flavour of roasting the beets.  Most often we are too lazy ... so boiling it is!  Both are good
-  For me, the goat cheese MAKES this dish.  There's something extra special about the creaminess and the funkiness of it.  But ... if you hate goat cheese, you can substitute it with feta cheese!
- you can mix the beets with a bit of butter if you like.  I'm not a huge butter fan, so I don't think it needs it, but you're welcome to add it if you like it!
- I love to add in chopped toasted pecans.  If you've got the time, toast em!

If you try it, or tweak it I'd love to hear what you do!  Post a pic on your social media and tag me!
