July's Random Thoughts

Jul 31, 2022

OMG OMG OMG ... I have been on pins and needles over this newsletter this month. So much has happened and something HUGE is coming too!  Grab a cup and let's go!

p.s. this is the view from our condo in Edmonton.  It's on the second floor of this Brownstone, there are very few mosquitos and it's got some gorgeous tall trees to offer shade and a bit of privacy, too.  I LOVE having coffee here in the morning.  Do you think my kids will let me move in?  (I know I know ... the jokes start early on in this newsletter, don't they?)

and just in case you were wondering ...

true story ... no kidding ... I totally do this.

COFFEE TALK

This month I have been talking to a lot of my clients who have amazing business ideas, they are extremely gifted and they have a to do list ready to go.

But ... they sit.

Hello ... meet my friend, RESISTANCE.    I know her well, myself.

In this stage, we consciously decide on what it is that we want.  We know the action that we have decided to take and we are excited for the outcome.  In the moment it seems simple.  However, we procrastinate, we overthink and then we come up with a thousand different bullshit excuses why we couldn't take action.

Our conscious mind says "we've got this" and our subconscious mind says "hold the phone fucker, I'd rather not. Let's just watch Netflix and eat chips and dip instead.  We'll do this tomorrow."

And then tomorrow we either push through in SPITE of the resistance or pull out the chips and dip and some new excuses of why we "can't".

Now, some people would suggest that maybe it isn't an aligned idea.  You know ... that maybe we aren't meant for that path. But we WANT to try it ... it's kinda like a 5-year old who desperately wants to get on the swing-set but can't let go of her moms leg.

I have recently had this epiphany ... a 7 stage process to get women out of resistance.  While its not QUITE ready to go yet I have three things to help right this second:

1) let go of the judgement you are placing on yourself - this process needs compassion to work through
2) don't you dare sit on your ass, buy your excuses and wait for inspiration, instead ...
3) do what you can to access your subconscious thoughts.  Meditation, journalling and hiring a coach can be a start!

What happens when you work through it is nothing less than spectacular.

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

I'm dying to know.  Can you guess what is wrong Feng Shui-wise?

My mom pointed this house out to me and said she was thinking about the Feng Shui of it and why it isn't selling.  Uhhhhh I hadn't even NOTICED THERE WAS A HOUSE THERE.  (This is the point, actually)

This tree is so gorgeous and healthy and I'm sure most people would think I'm crazy for saying it ... but it's gotta be trimmed.  A lot.

We want to be able to see the front door from the road (because we want the good chi to get into the house!) and see the house numbers too.

This house is for sale, but as you can see, right now it looks like they are selling a garage, with a large tree and two electrical boxes.  Trim the bottom branches off to sell this house and also, to allow in the energy and opportunities into the home.

Now, take a quick look at your architectural front door. Can you see it clearly or do you need a bit of landscaping done?

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

My first job after University was working for a clinic who assessed and tutored kids and adults with learning disabilities.  It was my boss (and neuro-psych diagnostician) who first suggested that I had dyslexia.  I had good marks in school so I never considered that I had any learning issues but reading ... not my fave.  When we would be asked to read out loud in class I would panic.  I would try to guess which paragraph would be mine and pre-read it so that I didn't make any mistakes.  (I made them anyway - I pull words from somewhere else on the page but my brain thinks it's in the sentence I'm reading).

To this day, I NEVER will read a speech, my courses are channelled not fully prepared.  I speak with a few words on a paper or none at all ... and that is MUCH less stressful than reading something that has been prepared.

Anyway, it was working for this company, where I truly started to understand that we all have extraordinary gifts and our job while we are here on earth, is to find them.  Not all of us can learn exactly the way the school system teaches ... it teaches to the AVERAGE and in a way that is easily scaled.  My dream would be to teach to our individual brilliance and it kills me that some kids never find it or get the chance to display it to the teachers they are desperate to impress.

SOMEtimes ... we can find it early on though and this is just one example.  I wonder what this little girl will grow up to do?

We ALL have extraordinary gifts and all too often we spend most of our time trying to hammer the fuck out of ourselves for the things that we aren't that great at.  We try to assimilate and we believe that we have to strengthen our weaknesses in order to thrive.

We don't.

Find your strengths and do more of THAT.  Focusing more on fixing what society thinks is
broken only dulls our brilliance.  Blaze your own trail.

FUN STUFF

I have collected so many things that have made me laugh this month but yet, this newsletter seems uber serious so I added in a section ... just 'cause I like to laugh.  Here are some of the things you've sent me this month!

(For those of you who didn't know like me:  Only Fans is a subscription based platform - I read that it was intended to be for fitness trainers etc but I hear its more like half naked people trying to make money of their pics - makes this even funnier hey?)

I love Walter ... I "get" him.  ha

This one is TOTALLY my daughter's humour ... she plans on going into Medical Aesthetics.

COOL SHIT

Ok ... so it's not entirely cool, but it's important ... and I'm on a rampage to let everyone know.  Baby Aspirin ... a must have in your purse, in your first aid kit, in your home.

Now let me tell you why ...

Ok well ... this is probably pretty anti-climactic now since you read the box ... but here is the story.

My grandma used to have one baby aspirin a day, for stroke prevention.  While I have some at home, I never really thought to put them in my purse.  This month, while my friend and I were watching Cole play football one of the players "got pancaked" as Cole says.  He laid on the ground for a bit until he was helped off the field.  Within a few minutes, they suspected a heart attack and ran to the crowd to ask if anyone had aspirin (and also asked someone to grab the defibrillator).

Luckily, someone in the crowd DID have some aspirin and ran it onto the field.  (Though ... then she rolled her ankle and injured herself in the process.  It was a WILD day let me tell you).  Thankfully the player was okay, but it was a good reminder for me to keep some aspirin in my purse for those moments of "just in case".

I don't have First Aid, but I'll be the girl with the aspirin when you need it.  ;)

WHAT'S COMIN UP?

** PODCASTS **

OKAY so you know that I have a podcast, co-hosted with the lovely Leigh Kubin called "The Happy Half Hour".  We have a 30 minute show each week (you can find it on Spotify) where we chat about life and how to shift your perspective on it!  Last week we talked about menopause ... Leigh called it "WTF is coming out of my chin?"  Sadly, I know this dilemma.

You can find it here along with a lot of other amazing episodes!!

Also ...

I'M LAUNCHING ANOTHER ONE!!!

This is all me ... the crazy shit that I say ... that will inspire you to take some type of action toward your own special kind of brilliance.  I REFUSE to get to the end of my life and wish I had done more and I'm dedicated to help other women lean in as well.  Each episode will be 15 minutes long (cause that's how long my drive to work used to be and I always wanted a kick-ass podcast to listen to that would start and finish on my drive).  I hope it makes you laugh, think and take some action.

The podcast will be launching in August ... I'll send you a special email when it is live ... and I'm SO EXCITED!!!!  I've already recorded the intro, the outro and a few episodes and let me tell you it's next level BADASS.

Keep your eyeballs on your emails cause I'll be giving you all the details when it is live!

** THE LEVELS:  a new coaching platform **

I love private coaching sessions.  I love the deep conversations that I have with my clients in those 1:1 calls.  I love the vulnerability that happens.  I love the deep work.  I love the quick transformations that occur and the sparkle in their eye when they become inspired.  I love that I literally feel like I get to experience ALL types of businesses and situations, just by being a small part in my client's lives.

I love it all.

What I realized though is that the coaching industry seems to lend towards high touch, high priced 1:1 coaching.  If you want a business coach you are paying multiple 1000's of dollars in order to hire one.  If you want a coach who has paid 6 figures, you are going to be paying almost that yourself.

So when my high priced coach asked me "why don't you charge the way you spend?" it set me on my ass in the best way possible.  It made me really dig into WHY I don't charge high prices for my coaching ... work through the limiting beliefs I had and also, got me completely clear on what I DO want.

What I want to do is offer coaching for the me I WAS, the me I AM and everything in between, that would still be able to grow WITH me.  So I created

THE LEVELS

The old me loved short containers while the current me is ALL about tying myself to a mentor long term so I'm offering varying lengths as well.

Month-to-month or all year long;  different prices and different levels of support.  You choose.  AHHHH I love it.

Oh and one more thing ... my manifestation course last week was FREAKING AMAZING!!!  I think it might have been the best course I've held.   If you are wanting access to it the link is HERE  It's currently $111 CAD with lifetime access!  (included in THE LEVELS)

TASTY SHIT!

On Monday's, my daughter and I have a standing Rice Bowl and The Bachelorette date.  She usually finds a killer new rice bowl recipe on TikTok each week, but on this one Monday we kinda mashed a few recipes together and created our own.  OHHHH boy it was tasty.  We used shawarma chicken, turmeric rice, a homemade pico de gallo and cilantro lime sauce.  Even though it was across the world with cuisines, it was so good.  Here is the series of recipes we used ... you can choose your fave or have em together in a bowl like we did.  I added a LOT of fresh cilantro to my bowl.

SANDRA AND SHEA'S RICE BOWL with kick-ass CILANTRO SAUCE

SHAWARMA CHICKEN

This is my all-time favourite shawarma chicken recipe from Skinny Taste.  I love it so much I'm just going to give you the link to the recipe here:  https://www.skinnytaste.com/shawarma-spiced-grilled-chicken-with-garlic-yogurt

I only use the recipe for the shawarma marinade (not the garlic yogurt) but if you're looking for a quick view of what's inside, here it is:  chicken, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic cloves, cumin, smoked paprika, turmeric, curry powder, cinnamon, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper.  (p.s my mouth is watering already).

TURMERIC RICE

Melt 2 tbsp butter in a pot.  Saute 2 minced garlic cloves for 1-2 minutes on low-medium heat.  Add 1-1/2 cups basmati rice, 1 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp cumin and cook for 3-4 minutes.  Add in 3 cups of water and cook as per the directions on your rice package.

QUICK PICO DE GALLO

Combine:  chopped roma tomatoes (deseeded), chopped red onion, chopped cilantro, fresh jalapeño chopped (if desired).  Add fresh lime or lemon juice, olive oil (if desired), salt to taste.

CILANTRO LIME SAUCE

Combine in a blender:  1/2 cup plain greek yogurt, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 large fresh garlic cloves, 1 lime squeezed, 1/2 a bunch of cilantro.  You can add this to tacos, rice bowls, salads or anything you can think of.  It's so so good.  ** We didn't have amounts on this one either so I've given you my best guesstimates here ... but be sure to just taste it as you go!!!

Our Tips and Tweaks:

-   We are all tipped and tweaked out ... the whole thing was really just a mixture of what we loved all in a bowl.  It SEEMS like a whole Bobby Flay ordeal (recipes within recipes) but each of them is quick and easy to make.

- If you wanted, you could put this in a wrap or a pita or serve it with some naan bread.  It would be good on a big ole bowl of romaine too (I added the cilantro instead).
