November's Random Thoughts

Nov 30, 2022

Well I'm writing this to you from the coziness of my couch.  I just love sitting here writing away.  It's kinda chilly, slightly snowing (and me ... not having to shovel).  I have had a wonderful month of connecting with and prioritizing time with some of my dearest friends, I had a mani-pedi from my ethetician daughter (for her final exam) and I ended the month with the BEST coaching calls.  Gosh I love those things!  Anwyay ... lets get to the second last newsletter of 2022!!!!

COFFEE TALK

Last week I was chatting with my podcast cohost Leigh Kubin (mindset coach, feng shui practitioner and previously known as a weight loss coach).  I happened to be in a "basic bitch" mood where I was whining about having gained weight over the past few years despite trying a number of different weight loss plans.  During the discussion I said to her "I look back at videos I did even a year ago and I now think how thin I looked.  But back then ... I thought I was fat!"

Her response:  ".... and THAT is the problem"

Fucken hell.  She was totally right.

As Oprah says, "what follows I AM ... is what we become"
Of COURSE I am going to gain more weight if my self-talk says "I am so fat!"

What's most interesting about this, is that I totally know better.  I KNOW that my self-talk is paramount to achieving any goal I have.  I KNOW that placing pressure on myself for my weight, is the sure way to the stress-response of holding on to it.  I KNOW how to coach people through this because I am a damn coach!

Here's the thing though ... when it comes to coaching OURSELVES through our own stuff it's much harder to do.  We are kinda partial to all of the negative thoughts, the limiting beliefs, the fears and the stories we have collected to now.  Most often, we don't even know we have 'em and a coach, sees our blindspots.

THIS is why I HAVE a coach.  THIS is why I AM a coach.

A book ... helps you to learn.
A course or workshop ... helps you to learn and implement.
A coach ... helps you to evolve.

I'm here to evolve every damn day, to be just one tiny bit better than I was the day before.

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

This month I have spoken with a friend and a client who are in the midst of a move.

What I love about moving (aside from new experiences) is that it is an incredible opportunity to step into the next version of yourself ... and in order to do that, we must be intentional with what items we are choosing to bring with us!

Take this opportunity to TRULY go through every thing you own.  Choose to take with you, all items that represent who you want to BE moving forward.  This is one of the best times to edit your home.  So when doing this consider:

Do I love this?
Do I use this?
Does it spark joy for me? (Thanks for this one, Marie)
Does it represent the person I want to be?

Remove the things that don't fit into the above categories!

Tip:  do this every damn day, not just when you're moving.  ;)

To remove items that we no longer need, means opening up space for new things to come into our lives!

Maybe you might want to draw the line at some point though .... ;)

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

I am totally inspired by this youtube channel and interview series called "Impact Theory".

Impact Theory is led by Quest Nutrition Bar co-founder Tom Bilyeu (who is worth 400 million I just read.  Holy shit).

The mission of Impact Theory is said to give people the tools and knowledge they need to unlock their potential and impact the world.  (Ok right there you know its gonna be amazing).  He has interviewed some of the most amazing thought leaders like Joe Dispenza, Mel Robbins, Ed Mylett, Gabby Bernstein just to name a few.

One of my very favourite interviews thus far is one that was done with mindset expert Trevor Moawad prior to his passing.  He worked with elite college athletes (and prepared players for the NFL draft which I thought was super cool).

He followed the research which said:

if somebody says something out loud its 10x more powerful than if they think it.
Negativity is 4-7x more powerful than positivity.

So ... if we say something negative out loud it's 40-70x more likely that it will cause a result that won't be good for us.

What he did:

He taught his players the data, KNOWING that it wouldn't be possible to ensure all of the players were positive all the time.  So ... he decided that they would ensure that the players "didn't say stupid shit out loud".

and it worked.

So here's the deal ... if this works for college athletes ... it will work for you and I.  Stop saying stupid shit out loud and see what happens.  Worst case, you'll piss off your family less.  Best case, you might just change your life.

I'm so totally enthralled by anything that moves me forward in some way, every single day.  I'm assuming that you are as well ... I mean if you're not ... what the fuck are you even doing with your time?  lol

FUN STUFF from the INTERWEBS

There are times when I'm super introspective, like I am today.  HOWEVER ... throughout the month I collect random things when I'm in the OTHER moods (like cheeky and sarcastic) and so here are a few of those as well.

I like to mix it up.  ;)

I may, or may not have thought this before.

I am TOTALLY the mom who has thrown toothpaste into a stocking or two.

Uhhhhhh yesssss.  Stay oblivious for as long as you can girls ... it's about to get MUCH more stressful than your kids grade one picture-day meltdown.

Ahhhhhhh the good ole days .... lol

COOL SHIT

Ok today Shea and I went shopping with my friend Penny.  She showed me these laundry tabs she has been using that I thought were SUPER cool and so I had to buy them.

They have even been named "Canada's Second Fastest Growing Startup" company.

They are paraben-free, dioxane-free (I actually don't know WTF dioxane is, but I'm assuming it's not good), phosphate-free and free of added dyes.
They are much easier to store than big bulky plastic containers (and easier on the environment).  They are biodegradable, better for you AND they have ones specifically for babies as well!

The company is from Port Moody, BC (Canada).

You can purchase them on Amazon OR you can sign up to be a TruEarth Ambassador!

WHAT'S COMIN UP?

When I work with my business coaching clients there is a common theme that I see in everyone:

They have a whole lot of fucking "SHOULDS" in their business arsenal.

I should have a website
I should have an instagram account
I should be sending messages to my followers
I should be doing more live videos
I should have an email list
I should run courses
I should be posting more

That's a lot of freakin pressure and what's worse?  It makes you paralyzed creatively.

One of the things that I focus most on when working with my coaching clients is to create a business and a strategy that is SO YOU, that it feels like a great pair of worn in skates.  It feels like it's a part of you ... because it is.

And guess what ... it's at THAT point where business becomes effortless, fun and PROFITABLE.

I'm SO EXCITED to announce my newest course for women who feel stuck in everyone else's expectations and who want to feel the freedom of stepping into their own magic.

In 2020 I ran a New Years Eve Vision Board Party for the very first time.  It was such a fun way to have a glass of wine, chat with other women and create our visions for what the next year looks like but with FENG SHUI MAGIC to it!

This year I will be creating my vision board (and using my process) on line, on zoom.  If you want to join me you can click this link before and join my free MASTERCLASS group where I'll be sharing all of the details!

TASTY SHIT!

Chopped Leaf Signature Salad a la Sandra

My son took me to Chopped Leaf and suggested I try this Signature Salad.  I thought it was super tasty so I grabbed the menu/brochure and replicated it.
I made it even better though ;)

I kept forgetting to take a picture, so this one is directly from the web.  Mine looks different so pay more attention to the instructions than the picture!

Salad ingredients (to taste):

romaine lettuce (chopped into very small pieces ... like 1cm x 1cm)
 craisins
chopped red onion
toasted pecans, chopped
feta cheese, crumbled
croutons

Salad dressing (approx amounts):

extra virgin extra light tasting olive oil  1/2 cup
white balsamic vinegar 1/2 cup
honey 1 tbsp
dijon mustard  1 tbsp
salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

Chop romaine very finely.  It's a chopped salad ... not a caesar salad!  Throw in a handful of craisins, some chopped red onions, feta and toasted pecans.  Add in some croutons (I make my own, but you can buy them if you have no time)

Put all dressing ingredients in a jar and shake.  Pour some of the dressing over salad and toss (you want it all covered but not dripping in dressing so don't use it all!!!).  Serve immediately in bowls or put this mixture inside a wrap!

Our Tips and Tweaks:

-  Sometimes I am in a hurry (or too lazy) so I have added in full pecan halves, untoasted and unchopped.  Still good.
- Sometimes I have added in plantain chips when I didn't have any croutons or bread to make croutons.  Still good.
- Sometimes I haven't any any feta cheese, so I've completely left cheese out.  Still good.
- If I have a bit of time, I will ALWAYS make my own croutons for this recipe.  I think they elevate the salad for sure.  I love to use whatever bread I have on hand (I usually just use Dempsters ancient grains, because that is what we always have here).  I cut it into 1 inch pieces, then sauté the piece in some butter and salt the pieces.  I cook them until they are a bit crunchy and a bit chewy.
- you CAN use bottled balsamic vinegrette, but to be honest, I find it gross.  This salad dressing takes no time at all and you don't have to be perfect with it.
- you can totally substitute dark balsamic for the white balsamic vinegar - i just happen to like the white better and I think the salad looks a bit brighter.
- you can substitute maple syrup for the honey, grainy dijon or even yellow mustard if you have no smooth dijon.  Seriously ... use what you got and see what you think.
- taste the dressing before you put it on the salad to make sure you like the flavour;  pour on a bit of the dressing and then taste the salad before you add in more.

And that's it!

If you try it, or tweak it I'd love to hear what you do!  Post a pic on your social media and tag me!
