Random Thoughts from April 2023

Apr 30, 2023

When my daughter was about 5 she would sit for hours and plan out the design of the restaurant she would own one day.  She had menus, recipes, and pictures of restaurant decor she liked.  She did cooking videos by age 8.

While at the time I truly thought it was her path, in 2020 a new gift emerged and a career path she is so confident in.  Medical Aesthetics.

While I am still slightly sad that she isn't designing her restaurant today, I'm also the chick who believes that we get ONE life ... follow the path you're placed on ... and take a turn when you wanna.  WHY THE FUCK NOT?!

Life's too short to do something you're stuck with.

Currently she is working as an esthetican while also going to school.  Naturally, I booked myself in for a few of her favourite services:  laser and facials.

Before you're shocked ... this is my ARMPIT she's working on, it's not a weird and creepy shot of my leg and crotch (even though on first glance it certainly does look odd lol)

It was super cool to have her work on me and really neat to see her excel.  It's also so fun when I ask her how her laser training went and she says:  I LOVE laser ... I LOVE it.

I KNEW she would kill it in this career ... and she's just getting started.

COFFEE TALK

Oh my gosh this month has been such a hugely transformative one for me.  I've been sharing the BTS (behind the scenes) in the Power Project - my monthly membership where we journal, learn, grow, laugh and challenge ourselves to be better every day.

The Solar Eclipse kicked my damn ass ... and every fear I ever had in my 51 years came flying at me all at once.  Like, if I were scared of snakes, a box of them would have been thrown in my face.

But what I know is that we have three options when life hits us like that:

1) pretend everything is fine and just ignore those emotions

2) feel the feelings and then roll around in them, creating more stories and getting addicted to the drama of it all like a high school

3) KNOW that when these emotions come up, it's a gift - it's an opportunity to heal something in us and that when we can allow them to move through us, beautiful stuff is on the other side.

I'm beginning to LOVE the lessons ... because every damn time I experience one, MAGIC is around the corner.

You can listen here for more!

And cookies ... we also loved the cookies.  ;)

p.s. even though we had to wait an hour in line for Crumbl Cookies (the very first franchise in Canada just opened in Edmonton) ... Shea and I had fun.  It's all about the experience isn't it?

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

One of the things that I've noticed in my decluttering challenge is that for some of you, you've moved into a temporary (smaller) space.  You don't want to get rid of the extra couches and things but ... you're living in cramped quarters with a goat trail of breathing/walking room.

I know that you can feel stuck in this situation ... but you're not.  If you can swing it, renting a storage unit for the stuff that you want to save but not step around can make a HUGE difference for your mental health, the energy of your space and also ... your ability to allow new opportunities in your life.

If your space is stuffed full with stuff ... you cannot open up to receive any blessings.  The storage unit will be worth it.

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

I've recently started listening to Trent Shelton - former NFL wide receiver who is said to be considered one fo the most impactful speakers of this generation.  He reaches over 60 MILLION people weekly with his videos!

Like how did I not know this dude existed before?

When his NFL career ended, he struggled with the transition.  To hold himself accountable, he started doing 2-minute videos of his daily progress using the hashtag #rehabtime.

It was blunt, in your face, but always uplifting.  He has a podcast called "Straight Up with Trent Shelton" and a mission to deliver an empowering message and demonstrating that change starts from within - through the development of faith, mindset, self-care, relationship building and leadership.

His story is such an inspirational one to me ... achieved his childhood dream of playing NFL only to lose it and lose himself in the process.  Then picking himself back up and finding his souls purpose along the way.

He now says that receiving a DM from someone that tells him he has changed their lives, is more of a thrill for him than coming out of the tunnel with 50 or 60,000 people screaming.

How cool is that!?

Sometimes, rejection is just redirection.

FUN STUFF from the INTERWEBS

... and now for the fun stuff, the inspiring stuff and the interesting stuff ... to me anyway.

I wonder how many famous musicians say ... yep ... it all started with that beautiful recorder ...

I miss the good ole days when we could just lick our fingers and trust.

Ok has anyone tried this yet?  I'm convinced it might be equal parts of awful and awesome.

I have one counselling workshop so clearly far from a therapist but I bet half of the BEST coaching calls I have start out like this.  I love the clients who lay it all on the line and don't hold back.  They're my kinda people.  ;)

I love this so much ... but I'm working on just saying the stuff.  In case you didn't know ... I have a podcast called "WTF did she just say?" for a REASON!!!!  ;)

p.s. this week's episode is awesome!!

COOL SHIT

Ok so you know that I hate to read.  My dyslexic brain tries hard to keep my eyes on each word, but because of that, I become cranky and tired and wanna throw my book.

I buy books with the intention to read them (and cause I really like to highlight stuff that I find pivotal to me) but who am I kidding ... reading is not enjoyable for me so this is really just a waste of money.

THIS month though I downloaded the kindle app onto my husbands iPad.   Uhmmmmmm kind freaking obsessed with the damn thing!!!!

I can change the background colour (I prefer black), I can change the font to Open Dyselxic (SO much easier to read for me), I can highlight things that I want and it saves it onto a side panel.   While fooling around with it I even noticed that you can use a digital ruler to keep yourself focused!

THIS is what the default "normal" setting with a highlighted sentence looks like:

CAN I read this?  Yes.  But not one part of me wants to.

On the other hand ...

THIS setting makes my brain and my eyes relax (in real life anyway ... this is a picture of my iPad so it's a little distorted).  The Open Dyslexic font is thicker on the bottom of the letters.  It allows your brain to sort of have an anchor to each of the letters so they are less likely to "move" on me.  I can read more quickly and more accurately and plus ... it's just fun to flip the pages on this thing.  ;)

WHAT'S COMIN UP?

INTENTIONAL:  Wealth/Abundance

Every year, I go through my home, area by area.    I start with the things that I/we would like to manifest in our life for that year, then edit out the things that no longer represent where we want to go.  Then piece by piece we move things or add things.

In 2022 in Wealth/Abundance month, we purchased new furniture that felt much richer than what we had ... and I'm not kidding you ... more money than we were expecting arrived faster than we thought possible.

Women that I worked with got new jobs, unexpected cheques, won raffles and more.  It's AMAZING what happens when you open yourself and your space, to possibilities.

THIS month my husband and I have some cool new changes we are making in our space so I'm excited to see what abundance we can create!  If you'd like to join us ... come on in!  You can join for this month, choose several or join them all.  You pay once and get access to this round and all subsequent ones!

YES I WANNA DESIGN MY HOME WITH SANDRA!

I'm kinda sorta completely obsessed with this freaking group.

Personal Power.  Transformation.  Emotional Intelligence.  Intuition.

I always knew that journalling was what I needed to commit to in order to see my life change.  There's just something so powerful about writing out your thoughts, your feelings, your dreams and your fears ... every day.

What I didn't realize was how this group would evolve.

We do all sorts of cool things and for the month of May ... I've got a cool gift for the girls from my friend Kelly Dunlap!!!

You can join for just one month or stay for as long as you want!!!  It's truly transformational.  What we are realizing????

I created it because I NEEDED it and it's already changing my everything.  Are you in?

I WANNA CHANGE MY OWN DAMN LIFE

There's a moment ... when you realize that every day is a gift.  We spend too much time in our heads, overthinking and worrying about perfect.  We don't try for fear of failure.  We wait for everything to be ideal before we begin ... but ideal doesn't happen.  We waste time worrying about shit that doesn't matter.

One day we wake up and realize that we've lived our lives for someone else ... and when we look back, it doesn't even look like US anymore.

And that's why I have created this coaching suite.

I promise ... life is not meant to feel like an assembly line of tasks.  It GETS to be good and when we can lean into that "thing" that we are great at ... it gets to be great.  I'm determined to help you get there.

TASTY SHIT!

Well ... I looked back at some of my past newsletters and it looks like all I eat is salads.  While I do love a great BAS (big ass salad) like my friend Kelly says I ... am more than just a great BAS.  ;)

This month I tried a recipe that I honestly avoided for a few years but WHOA Shea and I loved it.  Plus, it's oddly satisfying to smash these little suckers.

SMASHED POTATOES w/ FRESH HERB GREMOLATA

Potatoes

1 ½ pounds baby yellow or red potatoes 1-½ to 2 inches in diameter)

extra-virgin olive oil

Gremolata

¼ cup fresh herbs, chopped finely

zest of 1 lemon finely zested

2 cloves garlic, finely minced

sea salt a generous pinch

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400F.  Place the unpeeled baby potatoes onto a large sheet pan (my fave is the pampered chef bar pan, but use what ya got).  Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and coat all of the potatoes.  Roast until almost cooked through (approx 30 min)

Use the bottom of a glass and flatten each baby potato to a thickness of about ½ inch. Repeat with all the potatoes. Don’t worry if some break apart a bit; you can still use them.

Our Tips and Tweaks:

Shea and I preferred using a clear glass to smash the potatoes (it makes it easier to see how thin you are making them).

We put a LOT of gremolata on our potatoes ... it was a bit much.  Next time we would just a tiny bit (more like a garnish) and serve with the dish of gremolata on the side.

We only had fresh flat leaf parsley and some fresh rosemary.  Seriously I think you could use whatever you want and it would be awesome.   Next time I will add garnish of finely sliced red chilies peppers cause, ya know ... Jamie Oliver would.  ;)

If you try it, or tweak it I'd love to hear what you do!  Post a pic on your social media and tag me!
