Random Thoughts from January 2023

Jan 31, 2023

I've got exciting news!!!

Well ... actually ... it's more like ...

Let me let you in on a secret:

I'm a fucking genius
at helping women develop their business branding.

I see things DIFFERENTLY than most.  I created something called a "Brand Filter" a few years ago in fact.  I talk about Brand ENERGETICS, Brand FREQUENCY, Brand EXPERIENCE and the importance of a Brand VOICE.

So ... I'm owning it now, talking about it online and no longer do I have to yell

"SURPRISE!!!!  You've hired a MAGICIAN!!!" once you hire me as your coach.  ;)

Welcome to my the bold new me ... Business & Branding Coach.

Nothing has REALLY changed and I will always be The Feng Shui Chick ... but you'll see even more of my gifts emerge in 2023.  I'm just tweaking what I call myself and this is just the beginning.

COFFEE TALK

While I'm on the topic of what I call myself (and coffee) ... let's have a little bit of a chat about it.

I used to call myself a Leadership Coach.

I liked it.  I AM that.

I have a lot of thoughts on leadership.  I have won two national awards for leadership and it drives me crazy that it's a buzzword in social media right now -  many use it and FEW have a fucking clue what they are talking about when they do.

So yes ... I can talk for hours and hours on it and I believe that if your team, your downline or your mastermind are fucked up ... I can help you lead it and fix it.  I mean ... if you're willing to listen that is.  If you're not willing to see that YOU, the leader, might have to change ... then I'm not your girl.

That being said, the name began to feel kinda boring to me and I hate to be a buzzword, ya know?

So when I kept being asked for my branding and business expertise more and more I figured it was a sign.

I leaned into the messages from the Universe and I flipped from Leadership Coach to Business & Branding Coach.

Just.  Like.  That.

For years, I have been telling you that business decisions are not a

TATTOO ON YOUR FACE

OVERTHINK a face tattoo, but your bio, your logo, your header and what you call yourself ... change it up if you feel called to!

Seriously ... it's just FUN to flip and change.  We grow.  We Evolve.  We Should.

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

You scroll through inspiring photos on Pinterest, check out the show homes and flip through the latest issue of House Beautiful.

It seems dreamy as fuck sometimes to have these incredibly curated, perfectly decorated homes doesn't it?

I can get caught up in it myself (particularly when I walk in the door and there's a hat, some keys, the mail and a dog collar on my kitchen island).  I mean ... it's right next to my vase full of flowers but it doesn't exactly scream "designer".

What I want you to know though is that "perfectly decorated" and "intentionally designed" are two COMPLETELY different kinda cats.

This bathroom for example.  Looks so pretty.  Everything I would say is perfectly decorated by an interior designer who loves the minimalistic feel.

But did you know:

while an all-white space can allow for mindfulness and peace and sometimes even luck

White is a METAL element and too much metal element in a space (without a pop of somethin-somethin to break it up) can lead to feelings of anxiety, excess need to control, rigidity, even jealousy.

INTENTIONALLY designing this space would be to add in elements that would allow the white to be the star, but using the elements that would diminish the metal a little.

For example ... adding in some healthy green plants (wood element) or bright and colourful artwork (fire element) would help!

INTENTIONALLY designing this space would also look like:

* knowing what energetic area of your home this bathroom is in,
* deciding what 2023 goals you have for yourself that corresponds with this area,
* adding in some items to the space, that supports you in REACHING those goals.

I know ... Feng Shui ... it's pretty fucking cool.

What's better is that when you don't know what else to do ... your ENVIRONMENT can be your magic weapon.

If you're needing a reminder about the various areas ... here is my cute new bagua map to help you out!

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

I find unique businesses and ideas so completely fascinating.  I mean, in 2023 it SEEMS like we should have got this thing figured out by now.  Like truly ... what ARE we missing?

Apparently ... we were missing a way to help the environment, declutter our homes and donate our gently used items to charity.

In 2012, Monika Wiela encountered a homeless man in Chicago who was holding up a sign saying he needed a pair of shoes.  At the time she was running an online shoe store.  She had a pair (or a thousand), so she went to grab a pair, but when she returned with them, he was gone.

She spent that evening trying to come up with a way to help people like that man AND do something with all of the empty boxes in her warehouse.

The GIVE BACK BOX was born!

So How Does It Work?

The next time you receive a box from Amazon, Canada Post, Aldo, RW&Co, Call It Spring (or any other participating company), print a pre-paid shipping label from the GIVEBACKBOX website.  Look around your home for gently used items that you no longer use, love, need and fill the box!   Ship!

Your items will go to the nearest charity.

Is that not the coolest idea????

ALSO ... you KNOW I'm all about decluttering.  Clutter = Stuck Energy
What a GREAT way to reduce your own clutter, donate to someone in need AND reuse a box instead of sending it to the landfill or to recycling before it needs to be.

FUN STUFF from the INTERWEBS

Here are a few of the things that I liked this month from my social media newsfeed (when I was getting lost in the scroll and avoiding my own decluttering).

Yes yes yes yes yes!

I'm gonna send this to my daughter (who lives with my son) lol

Freeeeeedommmmmmm

Ahhhhhhhh this chick just "gets" me

yup!!!

COOL SHIT

When my last iPhone decided to hold a charge for no more than 13 minutes at a time, I begrudgingly went to buy a new one.  All they had was purple.

It was a nice purple don't get me wrong, but after a while I find a lot of purple becomes really nauseating.  (Also, while purple is known to be a colour of prosperity and spirituality ... it should be used in moderation according to Feng Shui.)

I had no need nor intention of buying a new phone so I started searching online for a case that would tone down the purple a bit.

I found this really cool phone case on Amazon that I'm obsessed with!  It has gorgeous gold trim, a flip handle at the back so that I can hold it without dropping it 40x a day and it covers every tiny bit of purple that I have on my phone (even around the camera lens!!!).

It's soooo representative of the new 2023 version of me!

GOODBYE PURPLE!

Here is the link to my iPhone 11 phone case ... but there are more for whatever iPhone you have.  It was only $11 but looks more like $50!

YES I WANNA DESIGN MY HOME WITH SANDRA!

The Power Project is entering month 2 and GET THIS ... I got the idea on December 31st, 2022 while I was writing this newsletter and announced it in that moment.  SINCE THEN I've seen two coaches running their own versions of it!!

So either they saw my idea, knew it was brilliant and decided to copy me (totally freakin possible ... this month I have noticed a few entrepreneurs in my world using my shit) OR God just dropped down this idea like snowflakes and three of us caught them.  ;)

Either way ... it's damn well brilliant.

If you want to truly transform your life by creating a miracle morning for yourself ... this is the group.

I created it because I NEEDED it and I'm bringing you along with me if you dare.

I WANNA CHANGE MY OWN DAMN LIFE

I like teaching courses but I there's something magical about 1:1 sessions.  I love to sit with the women that I work with, get to know them so well that together, we can bring out their very best selves.  Whether its business or life coaching, I think the most important thing we can do is find our STRENGTHS, our zone of BRILLIANCE and do more of THAT.

I have developed a coaching suite that provides you with three different options + varying access to the workshops and courses that I have created.  You choose your level and we work within it.

TASTY SHIT!

HEALTHIER & SIMPLE CHICKEN NACHOS

We are a loaded nachos and guacamole kinda family.  We like to make them and we also like to order them when we are out at a Mexican restaurant.  One thing I always notice is that the chicken or beef in restaurant nachos are always flavoured really well ... it's not your typical "ground beef or ground chicken with taco seasoning" kinda nachos.  It's shredded or chopped chicken or beef and it's TASTY.

So ... I've got a new recipe!

I loved this Chicken Nachos recipe because it was very different from what I normally would make, it had only a few toppings (so it was super quick to throw together) and the chicken was great.

It really is ALL about the chicken in this one!

Shredded Poached Chicken

boneless skinless chicken breasts
chili powder (lots)
cumin (lots)
1 onion, chopped into large chunks
1 bulb garlic, cut in half width wise
2 bay leaves

Preheat oven to 350F

Grab a large glass baking dish and place chicken breasts (frozen or fresh - both will work) in a single layer.  Fill the dish with water until the chicken is almost completely submerged.  Place large pieces of onion in the water, between the pieces of chicken.  Find a spot for the garlic and bay leaves and shove them in as well.

Liberally pour the chili powder and cumin all across the top of the water.  For a 9x13 pan with 6-8 chicken breasts I likely used around 1/4 cup chili powder and almost that much of cumin as well.

See???  When I say "liberally" ... I mean it!

Place in the oven until the chicken is cooked through and no pink remains (165F if you've got a thermometer).  Remove from the poaching liquid and shred chicken with two forks.  (see our tips below!)

The Nacho Part:

tortilla chips (your favourite kind - mine is La Cochina Authentic Tortilla Chips)
cheese (I like Monterey jack but anything melty will work)
THE CHICKEN
green onions, sliced
cilantro, roughly chopped

Grab your favourite cookie sheet (I like my Pampered Chef Bar pan, but if you're Bobby Flay you're probably gonna just grab a pizza pan or a stainless steel cookie sheet ... seriously just grab something ... don't overthink it.  Pretty sure an old pizza box will work in a pinch too.  lol)

Layer the chips on the bottom, a bit of cheese (I like to use just a bit of cheese but you can load it on) and then top with the shredded chicken.  Warm in the oven just to melt the cheese, then remove and top with the fresh green onions and cilantro.

Serve with salsa for dipping or if you're like me ... just place spoonfuls of the salsa randomly on top of the nachos.

Alternates:
You can truly add on ANYTHING you want.  I mean ...  why not think outside the box??  IT'S NOT A TATTOO ON YOUR FACE ... it's just nachos.

Here are a few optional ideas to add on as well:

- feta cheese
- cotija cheese (for a more authentic Mexican flair)
- shredded brussels sprouts
- chopped grape tomatoes
- chopped lettuce
- black beans
- chopped avocado
- tiny bits of chopped spicy beef
- black olives
- grilled corn
- fried/grilled fresh jalapeños
- plain greek yogurt (or sour cream)

Our Tips and Tweaks:

If you're a whiz with your Instant Pot, go for it with this chicken.  I am more of an old school, heat up my oven kinda girl, but either way, you'll love this flavourful chicken.

Believe it or not, you can use your kitchen-aid mixer (with the paddle attachment) to shred the chicken OR you can use your hand mixer!  Use a low speed when you do this - should take just a few minutes.

If you try it, or tweak it I'd love to hear what you do!  Post a pic on your social media and tag me!
