Random Thoughts from March 2023

Mar 31, 2023

Ok.  Something super disturbing just happened.  I sat down to write this newsletter like I always do.  I clicked on my website and I got a pop up.

"Would you like to use AI to formulate this email?"

sigh

No.  No.  I do not.

Am I the only one who is really annoyed at the thought that what we read now, might not ACTUALLY written by a human, but rather artificial intelligence?

Universities right now, are having issues with AI written papers and are having to quickly shift to determine which AI services they will "allow" students to use.

I prefer to know that if I read something, it's written by the person whose name is next to it.
I prefer to know that when someone messages me on social media, it was the person and not a robot.

I may eventually change my mind, but for now please know ... I've written every single word of everything with my name on it ... typos and all and I want it to remain that way.  It's important to me.

Sooooooo ....

I'm a big fan of the typewriter, once again I guess ... but one thing I know for certain is that live video and private coaching can't be done by AI.

Nor can most dirty jobs I guess.

WE ... are all safe.  ;)

COFFEE TALK

Have I mentioned lately how much our lives are being changed in THE POWER PROJECT???  (this is my journalling group if you didn't know).

Every single day, we are just writing out our thoughts ... our dreams ... our frustrations ... our emotions ...

No judgement is allowed.  Whatever flies out of our pen (even one SENTENCE that day) is meant to be.

There's been so many cool discussions in the group but one of the things I loved the most was this:

Now here is the thing that I REALLY want you to know (and the girls and I are seeing so clearly).

Our lives, our energy, our outlook, our opportunities and even what we manifest, are improving and increasing ... in this group.

We do things a little differently than you'd think.  Like, last month was manifestation month ... we manifested some COOL stuff.

It's shocking how obsessed I am with it now, as I SWEAR I was the one entrepreneur that hated (and resisted) journaling the most and now, it's something I truly cannot miss.

This morning when talking to one of the ladies, we chatted through some processes and techniques that were particularly helpful to me.  In the course of that conversation I thought of the most amazing challenge for April!!!  Every day in that group we are going to be writing out one thing we are most proud of ourselves for that day.

This is in addition to all of the other techniques and ideas and options and cool shit I share throughout the month ... but I think it's great to have a North Star so to speak.

This one ... is ours for the month.  To give ourselves credit for how amazing we truly are, every single day in some small or big way.  It's gonna change EVERYTHING.

FENG SHUI TIP OF THE MONTH

If you caught today's Feng Shui Friday you'll know that I talked about this bouquet of flowers that I picked up at the Sobeys grocery store.

I love grocery store flowers (though if I lived in a place where they had roadside flower stands I would TOTALLY stop there instead).  I love to have them in my house as often as I possibly can.

Why?

- because they make me happy ... and that's reason enough
- because they increase the chi (energy) of your home
- because they add BALANCE to your space
- because when you love something, it's good feng shui

WHAT (or who) INSPIRES ME

You might have heard me talk about my grandma in this newsletter before.  She was SUCH a special woman and I was lucky enough to grow up right beside her for the majority of my life and until she passed at the age of 94.

She wrote out this quote for my mom one day.  She said nothing.  Just left it for her when she thought she needed it.  My mom has kept it to this day, tucked in a book, even though the paper is thin and worn.

"Learn to make the most of life
Lose no happy days
For time will never bring you back
the moments thrown away."

To me, this part of this poem exemplifies who my grandmother was to me.  Each day at their farm, we went out to feed the chickens, play with the barn cats while she and my grandpa milked the cows.  We made chocolate cakes from scratch in the same 9x9 pan.  We churned butter, shelled peas, picked berries and made jam.  We did these things because we WANTED to, not because we had to.  Oh and I remember we smiled a lot.

We lost no happy days.

How often, do we waste our lives, thinking about the past or worrying about the future?

What if ... we spent more time realizing that every single day can be precious if we CHOOSE it to be?

What if ... we surrounded ourselves with people who chose the same?

I think our lives would be vastly different.

p.s.
While my grandmother heard this version from her friend, Mrs. Pearman, I googled and found the origin.

It is from a poem called "The Lesson of the Water Mill" by Sarah Doudney.  One website says that Sarah wrote this in 1857 at the age of 15 years.

You can access the full poem here (and it's totally worth it).  One of my other favourite parts of this poem says:

“The mill cannot grind
With the water that has past.”

So true, Sarah.

FUN STUFF from the INTERWEBS

Well THAT was deep and now I have tears in my eyes BUT it's time for a recap of some of the things that I liked this month from my social media newsfeed.

When I work with clients on their purpose, I watch for the passion.  I look for the sparkle in their eye and how their whole face lights up when they speak about something.  THAT ... is the magic formula to everything you want.  Follow the excitement.
Sad ... but still true.  lol

I have no idea if this is factual (and lets face it, I'm starting to question everything I read or watch unless I wrote it), but it seems totally plausible and google suggests it is.  If so, I LOVE the fact that still to this day, some people have the traditional red barns.  How cool!

Did you know I'm running a decluttering/love your space again challenge in my free facebook group???  yep ... get your ass in there.  Nothing says love-your-stuff like a purse that weighs less than your 6 year old.

YESSSS I wanna join!

COOL SHIT

So you know that my daughter is in school to be a medical aesthetician.  This first year is just aesthetics alone, then nursing and THEN medical aesthetics, but in the meantime I'm enjoying all that she's learning (and all the services she can do now, too!)

p.s. if you live in or near Edmonton you can ask specifically for her and get a SMOKIN deal on services ... she loves waxing the most (most likely because she enjoys inflicting pain?) but she's trained in cellulite treatments, massages (including hot stone), makeup, manicures, pedicures, laser, lash lifts and tins, brow lamination ... and likely a whole bunch of other stuff that I've already forgotten.  SUPER cheap.  Message me for appt details!

Anyway, one of the things that she is always harping on me about is wearing sunscreen every single day, even when I'm not going outside.  It is the BEST thing to prevent wrinkles she says.

Oops.  Too late.

HOWEVER ... I don't need more wrinkles and I don't want botox (even though she will be doing this soon) SOOOO daily sunscreen it is!

This is my current new fave:

I got this at the health store and while it's pretty thick and kinda feels like I'm smearing penatin diaper rash cream on my face, it's NOT greasy at all once it soaks in.

Salt & Stone is deemed to be "high performance natural skin care".  It's Phthalates-Free and Sulfate-Free.  It's 100% mineral, oil free sheer sunscreen and the main ingredient?

Zinc Oxide (thus, the penatin cream flash-back)

Anyway, my daughter says SuperGoop from Sephora will be her next purchase, but any SPF 40 and up, will work.  What's cool about BOTH of these brands is the broad spectrum of protection they offer ... both help protect you from blue light rays as well as UV!

WHAT'S COMIN UP?

I love working on the Family/Ancestors area of our homes!!!  This gua is where you wanna work if you want to enhance your relationship with your family of origin or are interested in accessing the power from those who came before you.  To me ... it's the basis where your beliefs come from.  I love it.

TASTY SHIT!

The diet that my ND has me following includes an 8oz salad every night.  Salads can be so freaking boring when they don't include a ton of cheese, grains, creamy dressings and homemade croutons (yummmm they are my fave).

HOWEVER ... I'm completely and utterly obsessed with adding fresh herbs to my salad.  It makes me feel super fancy, I feel good after I have eaten it and it just looks so pretty on my plate!  I think slowing down and enjoying our food with all 5 of our senses is important, ya know?  (she says as she ALSO is the girl who has totally grabbed a drive thru burger and fries and ate with one hand a LOT).

Nonetheless ... I've turned over a new "leaf".  ;)  So let's see what I've been eating this month, shall we?

SUPER SIMPLE SPRINGTIME HERB SALAD

Ingredients:

Base lettuce:  butter lettuce, spring mix, arugula, baby kale
herbs:  chives, dill, cilantro, parsley, basil, are my faves but you can choose ANY you like
homemade vinaigrette:  extra virgin olive oil, a fun vinegar, salt and pepper to taste (simpler is better in this salad!)

Here is my fave ...

Bibb Lettuce cups, separated not chopped
chives
dill
cilantro
flat leaf parsley
basil
vinaigrette:  extra virgin olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, celtic or himalayan sea salt and fresh cracked pepper

Mix together "with fairy fingers" like Jamie Oliver says (very very gently) and serve immediately.

Our Tips and Tweaks:

I don't have many tips and tweaks because this is a free-for-all as far as greens, sprouts and herbs go.  Just grab your faves and lightly toss them in.  Here are my two tips though:

1 - this is a very delicate salad so ideally you want to have all light ingredients - heavier ingredients weigh it down (or they tend to sink to the bottom of the plate).   IF you want other add-ins, use thinly sliced almonds or a few seeds.  I like to also add in Spike seasoning salt and/or Everything Bagel seasoning.

2 - I love to add micro-greens or sprouts to this salad and stack it high like I'm a Michelin Star Chef.  I'm not a fan of edible flowers on my salads yet, but I'll get there one day possibly.  They do look SUPER fancy.  One thing I love to add is just two long chives with the purple flowers on the end.  I like to cross them on top of my salad.  SO pretty!

3 - If you are wanting to have a more hearty salad, I do like to add roasted vegetables (cut small).  My fave is to add in roasted red onion and roasted sweet potato (cut in 1" cubes).  Note:  you'll lose your fluffy tower of salad, you'll lose many of them to the bottom of your plate, but it's really tasty.  Use arugula or baby kale for these greens because they are a bit heartier than butter lettuce and can hold the weight of the roasted veg.

If you try it, or tweak it I'd love to hear what you do!  Post a pic on your social media and tag me!
